Alrighty, [enter typical project intro bullshit].

Let's get down to business, shall we? :3

PROJECT NAME: Ataxia
SOFTWARE: RMXP
GAME STYLE: Role Playing
RATING: Mature, fo' sho'.
RELEASE DATE: N/A

KEEP IN MIND! THIS IS ALL CONCEPT, AND IT'S IN A VERY EARLY STAGE DEVELOPMENTALLY! :]

NOTE!: I've actually written pages upon pages upon pages of content - this is my attempt at summing up the backstory EXTRAORDINARILY briefly. If anybody wants anything more in depth, read the backstory below :]

In a broken world divided between two races, jealousy drives the Humans to have an overwhelming hatred towards the gifted race of the divine, the Mithirians. When they enslaved their now enchanted brethren, they thought that they could eliminate the race as an entirety, and bring humanity back as the global sovereign. When the Mithirians broke free of their human shackles, they fled back to their home in the west - the continent of Vixpylon, where their Promised Land lay waiting for them.

A few decades have passed since they've allocated their own freedom, and now the Mithirians, at a loss of complete social and economical development, are attempting to settle themselves and bring peace to their lives. But with the Humans at a constant attempt to bring them back down to their knees, they're having extraordinary difficulty just staying alive.

When a Mithirian man finds himself a tool of an unknown entity, his blindness fades as he opens his eyes to the site of hundreds upon thousands of slaughtered people - humans and Mithirians alike - and the blood of the innocent is on his hands. The man, emotionally devastated at the site presented to him, slowly falls to the ground, and finds himself in a comatose state of mind. While he attempts to recollect the events that led up to this massacre, he must overcome his unforgiving subconscious, and topple over the colossal sin he has committed before he can triumph over the war he's waged on himself, freeing him from his mental deteriorating slumber of suffering.

NOTE!: Okay, this part is for people who are actually interested in what I've written/what I have to say. It's pretty long, so I don't suggest even attempting to read the whole thing if you don't have the patience/just aren't interested.

About 150 years ago, a seemingly malicious comet hit the planet of Eskria, devastating the world. While it massacred most of the people in the western hemisphere, the few hundred remaining survivors became more than human. This comet brought with it extra terrestrial energy, known as Aether. When the comet hit the planet, it spread this energy, filling Eskria's atmosphere with it. The initial people exposed to this substance, before it thinned, quickly morphed into what some consider to be super-human. Their hair color changed into vibrant, unnatural colors, and their eyes extremely bright and bold.

These people gained more than adjusts to their physical appearances, as they became in tune with this other worldly energy. They learned to control it, and to shift it's forms to their bidding in what became widely known across the planet as 'magick'. With this new found power, these mystical beings attempted to better their wounded planet, and use it to boost the efficiency of their already existing technology. And although they seemed to be a peaceful, near perfect beings, they had downfalls, as all lifeforms do.

It was discovered that the god of these people, Arxius, had sent this comet towards Eskria in order to create the perfect race. The messiah of these people, Phaentros, learned word of this fact directly from Arxius himself, an apparition that had appeared in front of him, appearing as an embodiment of the Aetheric God. He told them that his people were his attempt at creating the perfect beings, and that they were destined for great things. He told Phaentros of the one imperfection that he had given to them - their unavoidable addiction to Aether, and that without his blessing, the world would be without the mist and they would all transform into malicious beasts.

Then, Phaentros learned of the Pilgrimage. This sacred event involved the mass gathering of the super-human people at what the god deemed his holy grounds, at the northern tip of the western continent. They were to pray to a sacred object he had placed there, the Hallowed Ore - an enormous, diamond-like object. In exchange for their prayers, he would bless the planet with Aether, and it would fill it's atmosphere for another decade.

Phaentros delivered this message over a course of a few years to his people, and, of course, there were believers, as well as skeptics. While Phaentros attempted to gather as many of his people as possible, the ones who ignored his word were doomed to a hellish existence. At the end of his deliverance, he took all who obeyed his message to the north. After the treacherous voyage through extreme weather and natural disasters, and although some had abandoned this journey due to the hardships, the remaining followers ended up at the holy ground - unveiling the massive crystal awaiting their prayers.

For 3 days, they were to celebrate, and each night, pray to the ore. At the end of the festival, on the third and final night of prayer, Arxius made his appearance to his followers, and told them that they had done well. He stated that the believers that followed his wishes were to become members of the greatest race in existance - what he called the Mithirians. As they cheered in his name, he blessed the world with the Aetheric Mist, and told them to build a sacred temple in his name, around the Hallowed Ore, and that this would one day become the capital of the Mithirian people. This rigorous task was completed, and the land was entitled J'iduara - the holy grounds of the Mithirian people. This places land was beautiful, lush in color, with blue skies.

After the end of the creation of the massive architectural achievement of J'iduara, the Mithirian people returned to their homes south of the promised land. During their ventures back to their homelands, they were attacked by vicious, new born creatures. While wondering what had happened to their lands, they slowly realized that the people who were not at the site of the blessing had become beasts, just as Phaentros had foretold. With this sight engraved into their enchanted minds, the legend was told for centuries of those who refused to obey the god's wishes.

When they finally did return to their homes, they sent messengers to J'iduara, where Phaentros now ruled his kingdom of followers. They messages of the truth were delivered, that monsters had indeed been created by the former members of their race. With these rapid amount of messages appearing at his feet almost instantaneously, he began taking the people that remained in J'iduara with him and taught them the ways of controlling Aether for destructive purposes - these soldiers became the Mithirian Military. Groups of soldiers were scattered across the land, and were to serve as protectors of their people - templars, if you will. Each group of templars brought news of their cause, and the western world was immediately immersed in relief. Each village thereafter had temples built in the name of Arxius, and a few templar soldiers were to remain in each village, in order to protect their inhabitants.

In each of the 5 major cities of the Vixpylon, the continent of the west where the Mithirian's resided, there were the Colleges of Magick. Each of these academies specialized in a different aspect of Aether, which were divided into 5 different schools of magick - Fire, Water, Wind, Earth and Thunder. Scholars and warriors alike gathered to these intellectual sites, in order to learn the arts of mastering magic for combat, or for bettering themselves in the knowledge of their creator. Recruits were first sent to intense physical and emotional training at Zelia, a major city of the western coast, and were thereafter assigned to a certain school, based on their personalities and actions. After foregoing years of attendance at their assigned school, the graduate was sent to the holy grounds for enlightenment - a ritual in which the participants would 'ascend' into a higher state of being, and become either a templar, whom of which were destined to battle in the name of Arxius. The enlightened Mithirians that were not to become holy knights became scholars, and traveled across the land to the other 4 schools, and were to pass on their knowledge verbally, as well as through literature. These scholars have written the history of the Mithirian people, however long lived it's been, and are amongst the most intelligent beings in existence.

Over the course of the past century and a half, the unblessed humans have had a less than stellar relationship with the Mithirian people. The world had been divided between the two races - the western hemisphere, which consisted of the Mithirians, and their capital city, J'iduara, where the Hallowed Ore still stands. The western hemisphere is a very natural and woodsy setting, where the skies are blue and animals can be heard from miles. Fresh air is found at every corner, and nature continues to dominate the land. The other side of the world the eastern hemisphere, however, consisted of the humes. The eastern side, on the other hand, was a technological wasteland - without magic to fuel their desires, they resorted to the development of technology to obtain what they wanted. There is almost no nature on the eastern side, other than the areas where it's deemed otherwise inhabitable The reason for this division was due to an emotion natural of the human people - jealousy. Trade routes, exchanges of cultural aspects, amongst other things, were completely cut off between the humans and their previous bretheren. The humans were jealous of the Mithirian gift, and in an attempt to not become the lesser of the two races, crafted a piece of technology known as "NULYARC". This created a field of energy that actually cleansed the area within range of the device of any and all traces of Aether. Using this technology, they enslaved the Mithirian people, after they were rendered useless due to these amplifiers. After being enslaved for aproximately 80 years, one of the veteran slaves discovered a way to nullify NULYARC for a certain period of time. Using this knowledge, the Mithirians broke free from their human shackles, and fled back to their homeland in the west.

Because of this lack of Mithirian existance among the humes in the east, that side of the world has no monsters. However, the western hemisphere consists of hundreds upon thousands of beasts - those who were not there for the blessing long ago, and these beast's offspring and legacies created. Vixpylon, is in a way, considered "tainted land". And although the humes don't have monsters in their lands, the natural human instincts of lust and greed give them just as many issues, warfare wise. Territorial disputes and desire for power in the human lands have created many conflicts amongst the humes.

And although he had discovered that talent, he never fully got over the horrible events that took place during his childhood - this scarring, paired with never truly having a real childhood, has led him to a life of crime - He's also a renowned thief. He's committed some of the most well executed and devious robberies in the history of human's to date, and is constantly on the run.

NAME: Ryuna Sirourel
AGE: 22 Years Old

They have learned to control an element of Aether that nobody prior to them had even thought to do - the Hallowed element, that of which is used to restore and heal people, rather than destroy and conquer, though there are certain destructive capabilities, even in the purest of form Aether. Her family taught her the ways of the divine from a very young age, and she's extroardinarily adept at flexing her prowess as a healer. Though she used to be much more open and outgoing, her career pathway has led to her seeing many deaths - mortally wounded that were staged past salvation. She is extraordinarily gifted, and is a tad bit arrogant because of her infamous lineage.

NAME: Vorthus 'V' Faeyn
AGE: 20 Years Old
RACE: Mithirian
CLASS: Milieumancer
BACKGROUND: Vorthus' birthplace is unknown and he doesn't remember much of his childhood. His one main memory is that of him begging for coin in the streets at a young age, and an old man walked up to him, and took him in. The man raised him until about the time he was 17, when Vorthus decided to become what he refers to as an 'entreprenuer' - which, in his eyes, means a person who obtains money in an 'original and crafty' fashion. His caretaker, whom of which he calls a variation of the world "grandfather", lives in an extraordinarily large mansion, that of which is filled with puzzles and locks. The man has an extreme fascination with keys and locking mechanisms, and this interest has passed down to Vorthus.

CBS, CMS, Unique Leveling System, Weapon Crafting/Leveling, Custom Graphics, Mini Games... all that typical 'striving for originality' jazz.

Considering the fact that it's all still in literary form, there's not very much to show visually, as of yet.

Well, actually, I made a really basic and crappy world map. Enjoy! tongue.gif [I know it's shitty, stfu]

Not yet, kiddies :3

Uhh... as of right now, me, I guess.

Oh, and Nautilus for the character portraits.

Feedback, anybody?

Criticism GLADLY accepted, no matter how harsh. I can take it, trusssttt me :]

Could you please make your images shorter? It's humongous. The mini banners had to be sized down to 69% of their original sizes on a typical 1024x768 monitor.

This game sounds convincing, but you are right - it is still in early developmental stages. No wonder the only "screenshot" provided was just a picture of a World Map. I mean, I would rather see images that showcase some of your game's features (such as CBS, CMS, Unique Leveling System, Weapon Crafting/Leveling, Custom Graphics, Mini Games... all that typical 'striving for originality' jazz.) If you can get some proof of that kind of stuff, that would be great.

In my opinion, projects aren't worth the ass-kissing until you can rake in more content into your game (according to what you say will feature) for us to see. The character bios are interesting, no doubt, but there's a chance this will be a hit-or-miss project, since most of the members here on this site start one project, then quickly ditch it for another, and so on. I only have one active project, that has been around since late 2008 (and the last time I even announced a project was back in 2003-2004), but I managed to get some demos out late Summer, and the people who played it enjoyed the game. Not trying to condescend you, but I do think you have great potential with this if you keep it up. I just hope that you can prove me wrong about my doubts. Thank you.

Oh yeah, well first and foremost, those character designs are actually tentative - If I'm lucky, a really awesome person is gonna do all of the artwork for me - they seem interested enough.

At another rate, I hate Kingdom Hearts - I just like the idea of the keys because of the man's backstory, and It'll, of course, be more in depth in the actual game. Though, that's subject for change, as well.

And I don't have screenshots, you're right, but the only reason I posted anything at all is because someone suggested that posting stuff without hard content, if not to atleast get my ideas out on the playing field. And, I did it only on RPGC, because that way, whenever I advertise the project in my signatures on other boards, however minor and unimportant it is, if somebody likes my ideas enough, they might sign up to comment on it, and find that they really like the boards - advertising this kick ass forum is the main reasoning for me posting, even if I only get one or two people, hey, atleast I helped.

And third of all, I did just post another tab entitled Backstory - That's just a fraction of what I've hand written so far. If you feel intrigued in any way to find out more, please, feel free to read it :3

Anyways, thanks for the post xD

EDIT: Oh yeah, I fixed the images. Sorry about that ._.;

No problem, and I am so glad you hate that game too. Really looking forward to seeing how this game turns out a few months from now.

Almost a total rip-off of my story...
ANYWAYS, nice, I read everything up there, and I think this would be a fun, interesting, addicting game.

No fuckin' way. Link me to your thread ohmy.gif

I swear, I don't even know who you are, let alone that you have a project going.

Edit: Well, after some personal trolling in search of what you were talking about - I found Infinity Chain. Is that what you were referring to? Because I do remember that project, and the only similarities I see are people with special powers (of which were acquired by two COMPLETELY different means, not to mention: what rpg DOESN'T have people with special power?)

And second, the big ass massacre - first of all, mine didn't start off with that outbreak thing you were talking about. And I'm assuming that the "boy" that was found in the chest is the protagonist, either that or the guy that found him is. Either way, my protagonist did the killing - and I don't see where anybody went into a coma, or waged a mental war on themselves.

So please back this up, because I don't want to appear as if I'm trying to rip anything off of anybody - I've had this shit written since September 09, and I have people who can back me up on it :/

o.o.... I didn't mean all of it, I mean some of the key components. But it really doesn't matter to me.
I just wanted to say that. X3

Sorry, there's a difference when one claims: "some key components", as opposed to "almost a total rip-off."

I just wanted some serious justification, because I put a lot of work into this so far.

Regardless, thanks for the positive feedback you left in your first post tongue.gif

Some good ideas in this thread. I'm ripping them all off for my game, and I'm stealing Rekx's Fire Emblem chipset while I'm at it.

Lol, that's because I made that with my crappy paint skills. It's still all in literary form, there's no project yet. It's just all of my ideas. tongue.gif Thanks though!

Oh I see, apologize for the quick judgment. Any time frame on when you plan on starting it?

I'm in the process of it, I've been building a team and there's 4 of us now. I've been script gathering, found a person to do our spriting, etc.

So it'll get rolling soon, but I like to write everything out before I even open up RPG Maker - it's just how I do it tongue.gif

It's a good way to do it. Some make the story as they make the game which is a flaw in it self.

Yeah, I noticed that. I think it's kind of a bad technique, especially if you find that you write something along the way, and realize that there's a massive plot hole or something, and you'd have to go back and change some stuff you really would rather not.

And I think that final areas of games that just seem "rushed" can blame that same technique for them.

But yeah, I'll be updating the character bio pictures soon, we got our own artist :]

Yes, people should look at the big guys: Midway, Level 5, Square Enix/Soft, etc. Many rush games and they sometimes bomb out.

Yeah. Actually, though, I've noticed that alot of Enix's more recent rpgs [within the last 4 or 5 years] are just overall kinda sloppy and not up to par with their name.

:/
