but then again this may be a lot easier to use , so I'll see

Once I have enough money, I will buy it. It costs as much as how much I spend on food in a month. I'm so interested in RMDS that I even borrowed a Nintendo DSL.
I wish it can be translated.

If HG/SS, Kingdom Hearts DS and Xenosaga I&II was translatable, then surely this is too.

Looks like we've got our work cut out for us, though. This is a first for our team, and DS rom translation can be really picky. Hopefully all is going well though.

You know, something just came to my mind: This is Japanese software, yet my DSi is European. I know RPG Maker DS is supposed to have DSi-exclusive features, but I also know that DSi-only games are regional locked, so there is a slight chance of the DSi-exclusive features being regional locked, too. That would defenitly suck.

Also a friend of mine already played around with the ROM a bit and wasn't very happy with what he got. He said the mapping system sucks a lot and the Maker is very limited. I'll wait and see for myself, though.

:/ to be honest this annoys me. its not like your gonna get a full scripting system on a portable console. (unless its a net yarose ps1!)

for what it is, its incredible, and the fact that they allow you to trade resources over nintendo wfc? thats a start.

i dont hold high expecations, but i laso remember what it is.
a console game for hobbyists.

Wait, do you really mean resources or do you mean games? If you mean resources that would mean you can do totally custom resources? That by itself would be enough to make this Maker pretty awesome. Even if you only mean the games it's still pretty awesome. If, however, resources aren't customisable to a certain point, then this is another failed experiment. You simply NEED your own resources to make individual games. Well I think it's also kind of a problem on Nintendo systems. You know, the DS with it's stylus is probably the optimal console for this, but the system itself and the limitations from Nintendo are the contrary of that. I think the best thing would still be to just make it as a DSiWare, but then - I guess - less people would get the game and Enterbrain would have to sell the game for a maximum prize of 800 points. That's where Nintendo systems kinda suck. I guess on other systems everything would be a lot easier (not that I don't like Nintendo, I'm the biggest Nintendo fan).

This is why I would of preferred a PSP version, or at least one where you can build your game on the PC and transfer it to the PSP to play. That would've been awesome.

Well I had loved if it was a DSiWare game and let you save games and resources to an SD card. A Maker on the PC could be an extra to that.

i mean resources, yes. my guess is that there's going to be some huge resource database hosted by enterbrain. you never know, you might even be able to upload them to the site by making the graphics on the PC, then downloading them from the site on your DS. there is a video you know..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaIzYEb7fWQ 3:20 they start talking about downloading and shit, and by the looks of it, it looks like it.

anyway. translation. that's what's important now, no?

I sure hope that's true. Being able to make your own resources would be pretty awesome. I also hope it has some basic functions from the PC versions like Parallel Processes and key support. In that case you could do literally everything you'd want to do, even if you were limited graphic-wise.

Well, guess what arrived today after four weeks of shipping. Yep, my copy of RPG Maker DS. And the first dissapointment I have to experience is the fact that this is not comaptible with my European DSi (I guess because of DSi-exclusive content). At least it is compatible with the European DS Phat, so I can still play around with it a bit. I didn't do that all that much so far, though. Not understanding any Japanese isn't really helpful for creating your own games. I would love if someone could provide translations if I provide screenshots (which will probably suck thanks to the fact that I have to use my DS Phat). Also it seems like you can only have two games saved on your card at the same time. Also there was one large number that I think was the size a game can have in bytes. The number was like 1,500,000, so if my assumption is right you have 1,5 MB of space available for each game. Another dissapointment is that you in fact can't turn of the hero walking animation and that those speech bubble glitches aren't fixed after all (they're still cut-off sometimes).

I'll post more as soon as I have played around with it. I guess the event commands are what I'll experience with most.

I hear you can only have 200 switches per game.

o____o

That'd be difficult to work with.

I doubt you'll ever get to use 200 switches, since one fucking event with a vew event commands already takes 0,7% of the space available for your game. Or in numbers: You have about 1,500,000 (insert Japanese unit here, probably bytes) for your game and one event with like 6 to 7 event commands (only a very little bit of text) already wastes 940 of them.

Jesus, I'm serious! This is such a dissapointment in any way! Enterbrain evolved into a second Square Enix. Just make as much as you can as fast as you can, no matter of quality. Only give a shit to money, not quality. I mean why was the RPG Maker DS delayed in the first place? To fix bugs and improve some stuff. Then why are there still so many obvious bugs? There is no excuse for this. In fact, I don't see how this could be licensed by Nintendo. I'll try to sell it again as soon as possible, but I doubt anyone in Germany will buy this and shipping to foreign countries is too expensive for me. At least I can use the argument "I'm selling it because it doesn't run on my European DSi" if someone asks why I'm selling it. What a fucking piece of shit!

EDIT:
Before I do that I'll finish my first project, though. "Softporn - Do me hard". I wonder if I can make a visual novel out of this.

I've been hearing a lot of feedback like that. They should realize memory is pretty much the most important thing. No one wants to make a thirty minute long game. =|

Sounds like the only thing you could do is make a single dungeon. I've been saying that it wouldn't make it out of Japan, and this is just another reason to keep it there. They should stick to PC makers. Or make one for a larger console. An RPG maker on the PSP would have been better than the DS, because of the memory stick. The DS doesn't use one for non-download games, so it can't do much.
