It's as simple as this: why did you decide to use RPG Maker?
As for me, it all started back around 2000-2001, when I first downloaded a Dragon Ball Z RM95 fan game from a site that got me interested in this kind of thing. Obviously, I started with RPG Maker 95, and I first started my project with it in the Spring of 2002. I guess the reason why I decided to wanting to make my own games with it was because I liked how there were some really nice fan games (and some bad games) created by gamers like myself at the time, so I considered it. Since my childhood, I've always wanted to be a professional game developer (not as much anymore, since there is not much room for the 8-bit/16-bit nostalgia developers anymore) by making my very own game, ALL by myself to show off and impress my friends at school. Who wouldn't feel glad knowing that other people would acknowledge your talent and creativity with making video games? Hopefully, I may start an indie game company with internet friends and work as a team to develop games, whether it be in RPG Maker, Sphere, or even MUGEN (which I also used back in the past alot). --------------------

Because a what you see is what you get editor is so much easier then coding it yourself.
Too true. Not to mention alot more fun! haha. I got into the Maker series with RPG Maker 95. Did alot of fooling around. So much, that by the time I felt comfortable with a game, it was time to switch to RM2k. Made alot of custom event systems. That's what I did the most with RM2k. My most memorable project, Mog's Adventure was also for 2k. Around the time I found RM95+ I was (I think)a freshman in HS... And already flirting with the idea of going to Full Sail for the Video Game Development course they offer there. I never so much wanted to code anything. I am and have always been more interested in the overall Design of an RPG... Setting over all, features(such as evented systems), and just overall concepts of games. Never made a complete game...even to this day...But my experience with the Makers is way more than your average user. Good thread, btw. -------------------- -------------------- RM Tsukuru Kokyo - RPG Maker Fansite, RPG News, RM Directory Site -------------------- Current Projects

Great responses, everyone. Each and everyone of us have come from different walks of life to discover RPG Maker, in a way I find interesting after reading how each one of you guys/girls discovered this wonderful game creation tool. Some, but not all games were purely crap. There are some real gems such as Final Fantasy: Endless Nova, and there are great humor games like Donald Fuck RPG..
It may soon mark the 10th year RPG Maker 2000's been in existence, but I still use it religiously to this day, and I wish no one here to give up such a great thing. The truth is that we've always wanted to make our own dream RPG, then go ahead and compare our creations to the legendary RPG series such as Breath of Fire, Chrono Trigger, and the like. I still find amusement in crappy/humor games that were released around the time I was still in Elementary school. Simply the nostalgic look of it truly captivated those of us (and still does) who grew up appreciating 8-bit and 16-bit graphics in the 80s/90s. PS: Sorry if I was sounding all philosophical and corny all of a sudden, lol. But I want to see this scene alive like it used to be back in the earlier 2000's. It may not necessarily be a career or serious job, but just a fun hobby to escape from a sometimes boring environment, a great way to express yourselves in creativity. --------------------

Ok...
I Can Only Remember This One... When I Was 7 My Dad Downloaded RPG Games For Me (Visual Boy Advanced) Because The Computer I Was Using Has No Internet, My Dads Comp Has Internet But We Can't Use It... So I Requested My Dad To Find Game Makers, The First Maker He Gave Me Was RM "2000" After 1 year (Still No Internet) My Dad Gave Me RM XP But It Dosent Work... So I Used RM "2000" Until I Was 10 Then Came The Internet And A New Computer That Is Almost Disabled Right Now... When I Turned To 11,The New Comp Broke Down...Because Of My Big Sister Downloading Stuff And Blaming Me.... And It Was Fixed Again And My Dad Gave Me VX And 2003, Then I Turned 12 (Now) I Asked My Dad For A Tactical RPG Editor, Got Bored With It, IGM Hard To Use And I Went Back To VX. OMG This Is Definetly Not A Spam. --------------------

I haven't been using RPG maker long, but I'm going for VX for its simplicity. I only started using it about a month after I joined this site.
