Welcome To RPG Crisis, the Maker Archive Site! |
RPGCrisis History Click here to go back. The first RPG Maker related website I made was towards the end of 2001. I had recently discovered RPG Maker 2000 and wanted to make a website to show off what I thought were my amazing games. I knew absolutely nothing about making website's so I used Tripod and used one of their default templates, I named my site "Ricky's RPG Maker Site". I used my site to showcase my 3 works in progress and my 1 completed game, the following was the only information I could find on my old projects. Blue Fire was about a boy whose school suddenly gets overrun by demons and it's up to him to stop them. Dueling Hearts was a Yu-Gi-Oh rip off where a boy fought his enemies using the popular card game "Dueling Hearts". Battle Arena was inspired after some massive Suikoden playtime and was by far the my best project. You started out as a mercenary for hire who after being tricked into competing in a local tournament is selected to lead a team composed of the best fighters from your country to fight in the world tournament. You were able to recruit characters into your party and upgrade your HQ as well as make good and bad decisions. My only completed game was a very simple game called Maze, I made the biggest possible map and created this complex maze that stumped a few of my friends. It was the only game of mine to get reviewed and was reviewed by a German RPG Maker site, they said that while it was simple in design the complexity of the maze made it fun to play. I started to learn how to use Frontpage and made my first site with it called "Ricky's RPGMaker2000" and used the free host Netfirms, this was my first actual attempt at making a real RPG Maker fan site. It started out real small just talking about my current works in progress but I soon stated adding resources I had found around the net, I joined a RPG Maker community called X-RPG and advertised my site and started getting a lot of hits that Netfirms suspended my account for exceeding the bandwidth limit. I found another free host called T35 and moved my site over there and with my adverting on X-RPG I was actually getting lots of hits and e-mails asking where I found all resources I had complied. Around this time RPG Maker 2003 had been released and after the incident with Don Miguel and RPG Maker 2000 people were looking all over for a translated version. It happened by luck that I stumbled across the first ever translation of RPG Maker 2003 done by Baka-Neko, I immediately downloaded it, put it up for download on my site and spread the word. My site received a surge in hits that it caused Angelfire, the free file host I was using to delete my account. For awhile I current keep the download links live because the accounts would get deleted after exceeding the bandwidth limit. While everyone was happy there was an RPG Maker 2003 translation they were not happy with the translation quality itself, around this time I received an e-mail from a friend who had found another translation group. I checked it out the translation by SoulFang and Alert and it was way better then Baka-Neko's translation. I downloaded it and set up a lot of free file host accounts all over and uploaded this new translation and spread the word. Hits went from the hundreds to the thousands almost overnight, seeing how I was the first site to host this new translation my site was being mentioned and link from all over. It was around this time that I decided I needed to make a new site, I came up with the name "RM2K3Central".
