Okay guys, I just got IG Maker last night, and I have big plans for it. As soon as I post this I plan to go read all the tutorials, but I wanted to get some broader questions out of the way. So here is what I want to do.
First off, the game should be 2D side scroller, so I'm using the Jumper Plunging, yeah? Next, its gonna be a hack and slash sorta battler, and I was hoping for RPG elements such as leveling up and item collection. I'm thinking that it should be command intensive as well, that is, entering button combos in order to use special moves. Or holding a button to change the function of another button. Can this be done so far? If so, I have more.

Can this be done? Before I waste hundreds of hours trying?

All of it can be done easy.

Yay! That's just what I wanted to hear. But like I said I do have more questions, and these are slightly more specific. The idea is a kind of parody. The lines between the gaming worlds and real worlds begins to crumble, so things end up out of place. The main characters can make use of this with an item (that I haven't invented yet) that let's them steal other peoples powers. Okay, I'm being kinda vague. Basically, if you collect all seven chaos emeralds, I can turn into Super Clayton, and once he finds the leonheart my buddy Doyle can use Renzokuken. Besides stealing the abilities, each character will have a many weapons of there type they can use. So besides my sword, Claire, I might also get Cloud's buster sword, or an energy sword. And beside the abilities we can steal, we also have our natural special moves you can unlock and upgrade by gaining experience from monsters.
Sound good so far?
So, as for the logistics, can weapons be assigned to a sprite, or will I have to make dozens of sprite each with a different weapon? Can I make special moves with variable stats that can be upgraded, like if you want to upgrade a fireball you could choose between damage, explosion radius, etc.
And yes, I am prepared to dedicate quite a bit of my life to develop this game. Can it be done?

Leveling is easy to do, just watch the sample games.
Leveling Items can be done easily too, you just need to do some "next actions" increasing the atk power, etc.

Right, I read all the tutorials. Next I'm gonna start downloading everyone's games and start picking them apart. My last questions are if anyone wants to help, and does the forum have a recruiting section. I know some other game making sites have a section to post about progress on your projects and a place to recruit help or ask specific how-to questions. Does this site have a section like that?
Oh and thanks for the help so far.
