Hello Everyone,
Enterbrain went all ninja on us and without anyone noticing they released an official English version of Action Game Maker! However the official version is now known as Indie Game Maker. I've listed the noticeable changes below as well as various things I've noticed with IGM. Description for Download.com
QUOTE
RPG Maker creator Enterbrain Inc. is proud to announce that it has released IG Maker (Indie Game Maker) for Windows, the latest in its series of popular, easy to use game creation tools. It continues a long-running series of game-making applications that have sold more than 2 million copies worldwide to date. Following the success of Enterbrain's game creation tools RPG Maker XP and RPG Maker VX, which have an extensive Western fanbase, IG Maker extends the company's easy to use, click and drop game creation software into multiple new game genres, with three major styles of game supported and Windows executable, XNA (Xbox 360) and Flash export possible. Without need for programming or complex graphic design skills, this allows users to create classic 2D, top-down action RPG games, side-scrolling platform action games, and even classic vertically and horizontally scrolling 2D shooters, with fun-to-play example games included to analyze and dissect. Using the simple-to-adjust interface, with flow-based graphical representations of levels, title screens, and more, it's straightforward for even novices to create fully-featured games. In particular, the tool features a robust animation editor, tile-based level layout and the ability to easily put together a multitude of different gameplay combinations. IG Maker users can even combine multiple genre types in one game, with hybrids such as a top-down 'overworld', with platform game levels when players enter buildings or dungeons. The result can be exported to a Windows executable-compatible format for online distribution, with additional possibilities including XNA Framework export (potentially enabling upload onto Xbox Live Indie Games), and Flash export.
- All 9 original sample games have been translated into English and EB added 3 more Flash series sample games. The new 3 Flash sample games all have that 8bit feel to them, granted they are supposed to Flash examples. The Jump Action example is another Mario ripoff but the Shooting and Action RPG seem to at least be unique. The music is from the templates but the graphics are new. My favorite is the Flash Shooting because unlike the other sample games this one is a vertical shooter instead of a horizontal shooter. Screenshots of the 3 Flash Sample Games.

- Another nice thins is that the templates are now in English meaning you can use them without having to guess what certain things are and what they do. It's the same setup as before, you either select from creating a blank Action RPG, Action or Shooting project or use the Simple Action, Action RPG or Shooting projects to build your game. - The helpfile is now in English, while it's not that helpful defeating the purpose of a helpfile it will help newcomers understand the terminology and the bare basics. - Indie Game Maker (IG Maker/IGM) is currently at version 1.00 while Action Game Maker (AGM) is at 1.01. Its safe to assume that any fixes made by updating Action Game Maker to 1.01 has already been applied to Indie Game Maker. - Protexis is also handing the licensing part just like they did for RPG Maker XP and VX. I havent tried my product key from my Japanese copy of Action Game Maker yet to see if it works. - Just like the official English versions of RPG Maker XP and VX, Indie Game Maker has a free 30-day trial. - Localization files are kept within a language designated folder. This should allow translators to easily translate IGM into their native language much easier then translating AGM. Personal Comments: Maybe its just me and maybe its because I prefer my translation but the official English translation is OK at best, its not Engrish but its no where near the level of RPG Maker XP of VX's translation. Seems to me they did a rush job just to get it out. Maybe they wanted to stop our fan translations, who knows. I'm also not liking the logo changes, changing the name is one thing, maybe they couldn't copyright Action Game Maker but those logos are so plain and boring looking. I've attached the old and new logo below, you decide.
