Alright, I'm starting work on a complete beginner's guide to RPG Maker VX. I was inspired by ccoa's guide that was started on RRR and Elemental commenting to me that I made tutorials that were very good for beginners. This is ccoa's guide she started:
The Guide Lot's of good content, but I don't know if I liked the fact that it was a guide on creating a specific game about as much as it was about game creation in general. There were a few things she did that I wouldn't use in my own game, but someone else might. So I ask you all your advice. Should I base my tutorial on making a game as well? Should I just stick to tips and tricks and not throw in an actual game? What about the content? What would you like to see in this tutorial? What kinds of things do you think I should cover for beginners. Any advice is appreciated. |

There was a tutorial a long time ago that taught me how to use RPG Maker 2000, it was very detailed and used pictures so you could see what the example looks like.
Here's some suggestions: Term explanation, give a brief description of terms used in RMVX so the reader can understand what each button does, it doesn't have to teach them how to use it just explain to them what it does. Think switches, variables and other related things. Creating events, to some events look complicated so explain what events do and the different options for setting up events. Database introduction, introduce the reader to the database and explain each tab and what you can do. Creating a map, explain in detail how to make a map, it doesint have to be fancy but it showed explain passability and how to combine the different sets to make a map. I'll post more later. |
