Quick Guide for Random Dungeons
Introduction
I have seen people complaining about VX’s Random Dungeon Generator.
I have actually used it in 2 of my VX Projects. And, I rather like it.
In this little Tutorial, I will show you how to take advantage of the Generator so you can get the most out of your Randomly Generated Dungeon/Map.
Making the Basic Layout
Fortunately, RPG Maker VX does this part for you.
All you need to do is select the Map you want to use the Generator on…
And hit the Dungeon Generator Button under where the Maps are Selected.
You are given 2 choices now. The first is for the walls, and the second for the floors.
The size of your Random Generation is based on the size of the Map.
So, for larger rooms, you will need a larger map.
Your outcome should look something like this…Only the tiles will vary…

Rounding off the Edges
It’s easy to see that this Dungeon is way to block-ish.
To make it look more realistic, we will use the Circle-making tool in the Map Editor.
Select the Circle Tool, and select the floor tile you did to make the Dungeon.
What you will do now is go from about mid-way from the center of a room with the Circle Tool, and move outwards to give the rooms a round feeling.
Next what you will need to do is correct the walls.
Your Map should look something like this now…

Filling in the Layers
Now what you will want to do is fill out your Map with some decoration.
You can do this in 3 phases. One phase for each different Layer.
Start with your first layer…

Now the second…

Finally, layer three…

Now you’re ready to start adding in your Events!
I hope you’ve learned something from this!
