Harvest Moon

Harvest Moon, a series of sandbox farming games by the publisher Natsume, played an important role in my gaming memories. Today there are umpteen installations of the series that I personally believe each games are nothing more than a revamped old hat. With that said, these modern games are still fun to play.
Your typical Harvest Moon story, with a back story, is your parents died, and you inherit their farm. Game play wise, you maintain the farm with choice seasonal crops, livestock, and building additions. In addition, you make friends in your neighborhood village, take part of numerous seasonal events or festivals, and mine materials to gradually upgrade your arsenal of farming equipment to the so-called platinum tier.
The world for the game is small among all Harvest Moon games, so exploring isn't a staple of the series. The basic setup of your world would include your farm, your local town, a forest, and a mountain which houses a mine. Most but not all Harvest Moon games also contain an ocean.
Harvest Moon was originally released as a SNES game, and today the series has games available on every post-SNES Nintendo and Sony platforms with the exclusion of Virtual Boy and the PS3. No Xbox Harvest Moon games exist as of now.
Your opinions of the games?

I remember playing A Wonderful Life and the N64 one. Couple of DS entries too. Good games.

I love the HM games. I've only played two of them though, still an immense amount of fun. Facebook pussies can have their precious farmville. xD

And their Carville, Zombieville, etc.
Most of the HM games are just revamps, but a couple of them are different from each other. Magical Melody allowed you to end up buying most of the town. Grand Bazaar introduces a bazaar as a main part of the game. Then there are the spin-offs/clones, like Rune Factory or Innocent Life (Innocent Life is considered the worst HM-style game ever.) They just stick with whatever makes gamers happy, unlike Mario and Zelda, which change every game or two.

Well, in their defence, it works a hell of a lot for Pokemon.

I beat the original SNES one (two and a half year time limit) and got a bad ending. Turns out the parents/grandparents wanted me to turn all of the farm into a field, max out my animals, and not just accumulate a ridiculous amount of cash.
I was playing the GBA one until two things clicked in.
For one, the game doesn't end. You just play forever. Boo.
Two, Sweet Potatoes make the game too easy to rake in money. Sure, I could avoid them and plant something else, but then I found out that Carrots suck. This makes the entire season of Summer suck (or was it autumn?).
I suppose the best thing I can do is make a Harvest Moon in RPGMaker if I want to play one that rocks the house.

It is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine. If you knew me personally you would never guess in a million years that I love playing it lol.
SNES version is the only one Ive completed. Put in a few hours on I think the GBA one, need to get back into it.

I went back to A Wonderful Life recently and I've been having a blast. Such addicting games.

I hated A Wonderful Life. I also hated Friends of Mineral Town(GBA), since it was just a lame remake of Back To Nature(PS1). Compare GBA and PS1 for a minute and you'll see why. Magical Melody was great, too. I've been thinking of buying one of the PSP ones, since I have Back To Nature downloaded from the PSN and it's pretty good, just takes a while.

I honestly didn't like Back to Nature. Dunno why, just couldn't get into it.
I played the N64 one and loved it though. I felt it had more interesting relationships than the rest of the games... which is something I wish they would improve on in later installments.

I liked the original on the SNES.
I actually DLed a GBA emulator yesterday and I have Friends of Mineral Town and More Friends of Mineral town.
So far, I haven't had enough patience to set up my farm/figure out which NPCs do what...
But I don't see how you could like one HM and dislike the other. They're basically the same thing.
Of course, people always find some reason to b*tch and moan.

Especially since once you get married your spouse becomes just another NPC. Until then they're an interactive NPC with feelings. After the wedding, they're right back to being uncaring and not worth your time.

I copied code from various peoples graphics...
I also changed one a little and reposted it (the how much noob are you).
I made some of the code from scratch to get it all together.
Is that all good?
