Do You Like Facebook?

What are your opinions on Facebook? Despite all the controversy, do you still like Facebook? Do you still have a Facebook account? Or has have you already deleted yours?
I used to like Facebook back in 2008 but eventually I came to a point where it's really not worth the trouble using Facebook. I just can't respect a social networking site that data mines peoples' personal information with or without their knowledge or consent. Personally, I think that more and more people are dumbing themselves down with the help of Facebook. I also didn't like Facebook because it's a very addicting site. And it's also a way of making yourself feel like you're not "cool" enough unless you have thousands of "friends" added. I find it sad that our society has become obsessive over this whole social networking shit in the last 7 or something years. Instead of actually being more productive with themselves, most (not all) people use Facebook to crave attention. I have wasted approximately 1 and a half years of my life on this junk to the point that I just can't take it anymore. It's just not for me. I can't appreciate a site that puts other peoples' personal information at risk of being accessed by complete strangers. And neither should you.
Check out these awesome links that inspired me to quit Facebook:

Yeah, I've never really bought into any of that FarmVille bullshit. In fact I would always block people that sent me invitations for apps. That shit is just a way to put your own damn privacy at even greater risks. Facebook one day will become a passing fad and sooner than later that MyLife crap is going to take over.
Fuck Facebook.

In the past month or so I've been very seriously considering deleting my account.
I saw some show on FB recently and they said that more than half the people who deactivate their accounts end up reactivating within 6 months.
I would really like to go against that statistic.
I hate how you really cannot get away from FB. It's everywhere, and it's very annoying.
I've been playing around with Vanilla 2 Forum Software, and it's very much like a "social network" forum...
So once I've had the last straw with FB and I actually delete my account...
I will more than likely end up creating a Vanilla Forum for my family members, family friends, and friends as an alternative to FB.

I watched that as well. Kind of disturbing.
And what happened to that teacher was just ridiculous. I know that no good can come from insulting people over a social network, but if you set up your account to where what you post can only be seen by your friends, you should be able to trust the staff not to change those settings without warning.

I have an account, but I only set it up so I could join the Group where coordinating a trip took place. Now it just sits there, rarely looked at.

Well, remember that you can't just *delete* your account immediately. You have to remain logged out of Facebook for about 2 weeks in advance because they only deactivate your account in an instant. And I agree with you that it's very annoying that Facebook is everywhere, at all times. Hell, you can even share this very fucking thread straight on someone's Facebook wall. It pisses me off.
I will never go back to using Facebook; I have wasted more than enough of my precious time on that thing. It's addicting and most of the people that use it (from what I know) are just selfish attention whores. They make a living habit out of checking what some guy just said about a photo with his profile tagged, or persistently bugging others to come check out their virtual mafias or farms. Who the hell cares about any of this shit? What keeps me off Facebook is the pure simple fact that I'll at least be inspired to go out and do something with my free time. How I wish I could get all those months I've wasted away on this drivel...
Oh, well.

I also like how, so far, we all have the same opinion of the phenomenon. haha
Oh, and Lyric; Tori took her phone number off FB once, only to find it was back on there a few weeks later. She hadn't logged on for a bit after checking it, either.
That's just creepy.
And, what also sucks, is that even if I were to deactivate my account(i would be able to wait the two weeks, no problem lol), they probably still keep all my information in some database they have.
Interesting thing to point out, which is sort of related...
The average American is listed in at least 50 different databases.
THAT is scary, too.

...Those who don't like it aren't using it, in this topic anyhow.
It's not like we're picking on the site. There's a plethora of legitimate complaints about it. =P

Like Lyric and others say I am pretty sure nobody here uses it at all. I certainly don't either.

Some people are required to keep their accounts in order to get in contact with people that are best reached via Facebook. It took me a while to feel confident about leaving it behind, since I had a few friends that I made using Facebook. Thankfully, we still get in contact over the phone, YouTube, and e-mail.

I sure as fuck won't be going down this direction. I'll just hang out at the bar on Friday nights playing pool instead.
