Hello Everyone,

Update
I've updated this post with additional information I've found as well as cleaned this post up a bit. I'll be updating this post as more information is discovered so check back often.

RPG Maker DS
Release Date: January 28th, 2010
Price: 5460 Yen (60.85 USD)
Official Site: http://tkool.jp/products/rpgds/

Attached File  RPGMakerDS.jpg ( 814.04K ) Number of downloads: 28

It was only a matter of time before we saw a version of RPG Maker on one of the newer handled systems, the last time we saw RPG Maker on a handheld was on the Gameboy Advance.

From: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3176472
QUOTE
Enterbrain formally announced a Nintendo DS installment in the long-running RPG Maker series this week. Called RPG Tsukuru DS, the title's due out January 28 in Japan for 5460 yen; no US release has been announced.

As with all the many other RPG Makers released in the past, RPG Tsukuru DS allows you to make your very own Japan-style RPG, defining everything from characters and world maps to monsters and equipment. The tools are all touch-pen compatible, making the creation process a lot faster than before, and you'll be able to use the Wi-Fi/wireless connection to exchange game data with your friends, although the exact details on that are still unknown.

You're free to create all your own graphics for your would-be megahit, but for the lazy, RPG Tsukuru DS comes with over 800 character-building parts, 1500 map parts, over 150 pieces of music, and everything else you need to get rolling immediately.

The RPG Maker series has been around in one form or another in Japan since 1992. The latest version, RPG Maker VX, was released worldwide by Enterbrain last year for Windows PCs. The last English-language console release was the PS2's RPG Maker 3 (2005).

I decided to do some more digging and enlisted the help of Phenie, we found more information including the scan from above. We believe the scan is from the latest Famitsu magazine but haven't confirmed that just yet. It appears the 1Up article is not entirely correct. Below is what we got from the scan and what Japanese bloggers reporting on the new maker have gotten from the scan.

- While is seems to use the RMVX RTP its got its own unique logo along with its own mascots.
- 800 different character parts allowing you to pick and choose to create your own unique characters.
- Text inputting is simplified using ATOK, build in word dictionary and predictive typing.
- 150 BGM/Sound Effects included for use anywhere in your game.
- Ability to use stylus to create maps.
- Max of 4 people in your party.
- Wifi/Wireless capabilities, so far only ability to share game data is confirmed.
- Battle seem to be front view, your party is displayed on the top screen and the enemy is displayed on the bottom.
- Possible Monster Book/Library.

I'd like to hear what everyone else has to say on the newest maker from Enterbrain. As always, we'll be keeping everyone updated as more information is presented.

Thanks to Ultyma for bringing this to everyone's attention, https://rpgcrisis.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=2626

haha YAY! Thanks, Ulty!
xP

The whole "Character Building Parts" really intrigues me...
Maybe that could mean piecing different parts of the RTP Characters together?
If so, I'd like to see that in action!

Hopefully, they'll make a US Release.
-crosses fingers-

Might be a game on the DS worth looking at.
No more slicing pies or baking cakes and other crap. lol

Indeed, I wonder how creating your own resource's will work. The mention of character-building parts sound like you'll be able to pick the pieces like the head, body, arms..etc allowing you to make unique looking characters. I'm more interested in learning about the online capabilities, I wonder if will go beyond just sharing games. Hopefully, EB decides to localize this, if not I don't think we'll be seeing a fan translated version anytime soon.

So far nothing's been updated on the Tkool website, makes me wonder if 1Up got some exclusive information or if this was announced during a company meeting.

If only this was also coming to the PSP, I'd love to see how character parts system works as well. Since it's for the DS I'm going to assume that you need a DSi in order to utilize your own resources.

Oh...wow.

It's NOT just gonna be a port with use of Stylus then, I take it?
That's good news.

Still...I'm trying not to get too excited...
I doubt US will ever see it...
Hopefully Japan goes nuts over it...and they'll decided to give it to us, also.

Should we start a petition to get it released in America?

Interesting news. However, I plan not to buy it, because PC RPG Makers are so much better IMO.

A lot of Japanese RM'ers are complaining about the same thing. The general census is that a PSP version would be so much better. In regards to needing a DSi, nothing has been said that a DSi will be needed for certain things so its safe to assume their making this with all DS users in mind.

I would probably buy the DS release if it appears stateside, but I doubt it will be of much fun as I've known console RPG Makers for their limitations PC versions don't have. If anything, I rather have an RPG Maker for the PlayStation 3/Xbox360, with the ability to distribute standalone games and with the flexibility the PC versions have since these consoles use hard drive for storage.

True.
Console RPG Makers all seem to bomb.
But, Enterbrain hasn't made one yet. So, this could be the one that changes that...Key word: COULD. hehe

PSP? Um no.
The utilization of 2 screens(DS) would probably do more justice than a single screen(PSP), if just for the map editing, alone.
All your tool bars and map pieces on one screen, and the map itself on the other. No?

Very nice move from enterbrain. Very, very nice
The price is pretty good in that respect. I'm guessing flash cards are still required for this, yes?

Thanks very much Ulty!~

EB has uploaded the official site for RPG Maker DS, link in original post. I'll take a look through and see if there's anything new.

In the meantime, check out the downloads page and download the "fansitekit", its got 19 screenshots, the logo and the package illustration. I actually like the package illustration for this maker a lot.

Not on my computer so I'm limited to using Google translate for now so the following may not be entirely correct.

- You can have a maximum of 8 playable characters but only 4 can be in the party.
- There seems to be what I'm calling "Easy Town Creators" which allows you to select pre-made things like houses making building a town much easier.
- Dungeons can only have 6 levels, dont know if that means only 6 rooms or 6 floors.
- A job (class) system has been incorporated.
- There's only 64 different Monsters (enemies).
- The games title screen is auto-generated using information you input. "A new feature in the RPG Maker series".
- 45 different event types are available.
- Easy event creation is included for things like save points and treasure chests.

Hmm it seems Enterbrain has finally got their heads together and decide to improve the RPG Maker series. =] I'm up for this if it comes out in english version. Mix and match a character, thats fun hahaa, you can make many different NPCs or Actors thanks to this.

In all honesty though, I'd save my £30-40, get a flashcard and use EasyRPG. You can utilize all the features in the other makers and in that respect, bypass those limits. Still an interesting tidbit, and obviously early days so I won't lose my faith in it just yet.

Speaking of EasyRPG, the development on it is coming along nicely. I've seen some new screenshots on it and I'm impressed. I'm also told the player will support up to RPG Maker VX.

ON TOPIC:

I'll give RMDS a try and who knows, maybe I'll like it,
