I've been going over this in my head lately and I really think that with the launch of the new site we really should launch a fresh new forum as well. I really feel that building on-top of the current forum will only confuse new members and visitors.
Our once mandated 3 posts to download rule is no longer in effect yet I see still members quoting it and new members making 3 short spam posts. I know the majority of members like that come from different sites where that old rule is stated but that wont be a problem with our new download system. However, all the clutter from these posts make our forum look trashy in a way and real posts get buried. I've already said the current forum will be backed up, uploaded to a temporary directory and temporary archived so people can pull information from current projects, tutorials, downloads..etc threads for re-posting purposes so it's not like you wont be able to view the "old" board. People using Google or using the forums search function wont be shown results that link to broken links like a download or tutorial, this also includes someone searching on how to download and stumbling across an old post about the 3 post rule. I've said before that post count doesn't matter here on RPG Crisis and that its just a number. Most people's big concern is having to re-register but that can easily be fixed so accounts are automatically approved, no waiting for a validation e-mail. We'll also be rid of the 1000+ SPAM accounts made by bots and others just here to bypass or spam to download. Personally I don't see a problem with a fresh start, seeing how the sites going to be on Version 2 maybe the forums deserve a Version 2, and yes I know techically speaking this is like the 5th or 6th iteration of the forums. This is why we have a feedback section so I posted my suggestion. |

NOooooooo, don't do another fresh start. If you want to make new categories, delete others or change the skin then that's fine but don't start another forum dammit. I think you should delete a lot of categories in order to prevent having empty forums but do not make another forum.

Just my verdict but I am not all for another re-iteration. We've accomplished contributing a year into keeping this fort up, and then abandoning it (not knocking it down) for the interest of building a new one may trigger some unwanted consequences. I am concerned the most about having some of our newer regulars disappear as a result. With that said I believe our present iteration still has some merit as of today. Your reasoning of a refresh is very understandable, though.

I concur, the fresh start may choke the site, but hey, this is what all risks are for. If the system is good, I'll take the bait. |

This forum isn't cluttered.... This forum is like a ten year old house. You COULD knock it down for a bigger and better, but a few renovations will make it good as new. Better to just build on this one. |

I think Dyhalto has got the idea. I think that expanding the current, and doing a little spring cleaning (ie. delete some old posts) could make the place feel as good as new. I see no real reason to start fresh.

Yeah, I suppose we could get the same effect from a "Spring Cleaning" type event. Thats what we'll do then.

Just clean out all the threads that haven't been posted in for months, and that would get rid of a few spam posts and free up some space.

I'm up for a clean slate as most threads were created just for the sole purpose to add post counts. Ultimately it's your decision EC.

I wish, I'm just the executor. Its the members who make the call. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Personally, I would love having a clean new forum to accompanying the new site, but that's me. If the members want a "Spring Cleaning" type event then that's what will happen. |

Or the alternative is to clean up most of the obvious spam threads post-download points. That or an entire new slate, both of which are fine with me. |

Perhaps a fresh start would be best...
It may lure in lurkers and such to post a little bit more... Or attract more members. It's sometimes difficult to come into a seemingly very well-established forum. Perhaps newcomers wouldn't be "threatened" as much by a clean forum. |
