Enterbrain formally announced a Nintendo DS installment in the long-running RPG Maker series this week. Called RPG Tsukuru DS, the title's due out January 28 in Japan for 5460 yen; no US release has been announced.
As with all the many other RPG Makers released in the past, RPG Tsukuru DS allows you to make your very own Japan-style RPG, defining everything from characters and world maps to monsters and equipment. The tools are all touch-pen compatible, making the creation process a lot faster than before, and you'll be able to use the Wi-Fi/wireless connection to exchange game data with your friends, although the exact details on that are still unknown. You're free to create all your own graphics for your would-be megahit, but for the lazy, RPG Tsukuru DS comes with over 800 character-building parts, 1500 map parts, over 150 pieces of music, and everything else you need to get rolling immediately. The RPG Maker series has been around in one form or another in Japan since 1992. The latest version, RPG Maker VX, was released worldwide by Enterbrain last year for Windows PCs. The last English-language console release was the PS2's RPG Maker 3 (2005). I decided to do some more digging and enlisted the help of Phenie, we found more information including the scan from above. We believe the scan is from the latest Famitsu magazine but haven't confirmed that just yet. It appears the 1Up article is not entirely correct. Below is what we got from the scan and what Japanese bloggers reporting on the new maker have gotten from the scan. - While is seems to use the RMVX RTP its got its own unique logo along with its own mascots. - 800 different character parts allowing you to pick and choose to create your own unique characters. - Text inputting is simplified using ATOK, build in word dictionary and predictive typing. - 150 BGM/Sound Effects included for use anywhere in your game. - Ability to use stylus to create maps. - Max of 4 people in your party. - Wifi/Wireless capabilities, so far only ability to share game data is confirmed. - Battle seem to be front view, your party is displayed on the top screen and the enemy is displayed on the bottom. - Possible Monster Book/Library. I'd like to hear what everyone else has to say on the newest maker from Enterbrain. As always, we'll be keeping everyone updated as more information is presented.
