We all know that money doesn't grow on trees, but I have a genuine idea here. EC is constantly looking for ways to expand the community. Well, here's a ball puncher for you. Why not open up an RO server. It's sleek and easy. Not to mention, you'll get alot of quality members (with the bad of-course). But, yes, you're probably saying, "I want to do it the legitimate way," Well there is no such thing as legit. On top of that, RPGCrisis is still across the border. So why not just do this little number. Most of the members here are big RO fans, and it'd be cool, and worth-while to open up a server, no matter how much work there will be. And if the money's out of your hand, maybe we could design ads, a new forum skin, a new website skin. And hook it all up. That way we'll attract people who might just pay for a fair server to open up. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Not to be rude or anything, but SS might just go crazy one day with all of these coding requests. xD |

Well, to run an RO emulator, people would usually use Linux based servers. As for bandwith and space, you usually want a server with these specs;
CPU: 2.80GHz RAM: 2GB HD: 80GB NET: 10mbit line or better. You'd also need for this server to have these installed on it: OS: Linux (preferably the latest installment) Emulator: (emulator of your choice) Database: MySQL If you actually decide to do it. then you can find the CeresCP (the control panel where members register, and perform account actions) right here and you can find some server offers here. A recommended server should have atleast 5 IP Adresses. Servers If not, thanks for atleast acknowleding my idea. ^^ |

my opinion is that that is a little bit to much money to be spending at this point of time... sure it would be good to have more members but is that really how much your willing to pay just so people can post on a free forum... if it were my money i would not spend it...

yeah, it is alot of money. But it's not just to get people to post on a free board, it's also to provide for people who are tired of corrupt RO servers, or servers that are always down, or for people who just want to migrate. Not to mention, at this point, only EC would be able to make that decision.

True, it is up to EC. I think that it wouldnt be a good idea to do it for people who are tired of corrupt servers because it is a lot of money and its not like there is any chance of profit... another option, if it suits, would to have the server hosted on your computer. it may be a pain leaving it on all the time but it is a lot cheaper. im not sure if there would be any lag issuse but me and Seth_ used to be a part of one that was perfectly fine...

Well, that would be alot cheaper, but he'd have to have one HELL of a computer, and one hell of an internet service plan to be able to run it. To provide lagless servers, he'd need a strong ass computer and a fast connection....so yeah.
