yo dudes its ironic im hanging out with allen and also making this post on his computer cuz he asked me to lol.
i did try it and i really liked the relics system i think that he did a great job with the game
he and i were discussing over my opinions of the game and so heres what i think of it... ladies n gentlemen heres pro & con!!!
the pros...
- mapping is spec-ta-cu-lar! truly captures the spirit of FF5, man...
- relics system kicks ASS. period
- characters are very interesting (cant wait to see how the other 4 characters yet to be introduced will be like huh??)
- difficulty level is jussssst right! though i had trouble at the forest but allen advised me to put veronica in the back row and learn to use her snipe abilities, which helped greatly lol
- the intro was done nicely and so were the other scenes
- nostalgia in graphics, music, gameplay, you name it!
the cons...
- plot is good but its overused and too predictable (tsk tsk tsk)
- character portraits made me LAWL
- dialogues of certain characters arent too distinctive of personalities... its like if rick says something, its like veronica or talon would combine the same exact words into their sentences and thus you get generic character dialogue. however allen can still spell great and hes good with grammar! i'm unfortunately not so much lol
i played that mimic rick mini game and i thought it was pretty cool too!
hey and i also realized a glitch (i even told him about it) where you receive the double cut relic to equip. however, it only seems to go into the command slot but not on the support slot, where it should be. allen said to me that it was a mistake he made cuz originally it was a command relic and all but then decided to change it to support relic but forgot to set the item equipment type to the correct order. meh... he's already fixed that issue by now
anyways all i can say is people should definitely try this game out. its honestly one of the few good rm2k3 games youll ever see still in the works and im glad i know the guy behind this marvelous game!!!! i just think he should fix the dialogues, maybee replace the chara portraits with something more pleasing to look at and thats as good as it gets...
cant wait for version 0.50 allen!

Just bumping this thread up to let everyone know that the game is being totally reworked on.
Some expected changes to see on the next release:
- Random battles in occur only when enemies touch you, like in Chrono Trigger.
- More purpose to use the Relics system; enemies' stats gone much higher, and with interesting attack patterns.
- Fixed character sprites.
- Menu faces replaced with sprites.
- Better characterization of dialogues.
- Pawn shops.
- Double Attack was mistakenly set as a Command Relic for the latest demo, when in reality it is a Support Relic.
- Sprint is finally here.
- You will be able to open locked doors and objects, but you have to find out how!
- Improved storyline.
- A revamped cities, forests, caverns, castles, and the World Map.
- More songs from Lufia II, Chrono Trigger, and Breath of Fire I and II, than just the Final Fantasy songs.
- Less lag on battle commands such as "Steal".
As far as an expected release date, I am not sure; schooling has kept me busy, so I doubt it will have a Spring release. But you never know.
***THIS JUST IN***
Runic Cipher will be out this Summer, just like when I promised last year! These assholes will get to lick the cake before it's served:
- megaman8x
- NES Player
- Dyhalto
- (This spot could be YOUR asshole, testing my game.)
To the rest, go cry me a fuckin' river. Lol!!!!!!!11

I've been really busy redesigning the characters (Rick, Talon, Veronica, and Kayla especially), reorganizing the game's soundtrack, spicing up most of the maps with more interesting mixes of tiles, and more.
Another thing that I have to mention is that I'm trying to make this game less "Final Fantasy" (in terms of concepts) by implementing some features from other games, such as Breath of Fire (in the process of adding item/Gil storage facilities and pawn shops) and Chrono Trigger (instead of just walking randomly to get into battles, enemies will chase you in Runic Cipher's next demo release, and characters that die in battle will be automatically revived with only 1 HP in the field).
So, sure, everything's going great, but...
I would like to listen to what you guys have to say about my game and the demos that were released in the past. What things about Runic Cipher did you like? What things didn't you like? For example, were the fights too easy to beat? Or, were you unsatisfied with the crappy portraits that were used as the characters' facesets? Just tell me anything, and I'd be willing to take your comments to consideration!
Plus, even if they may seem like obvious things that even I too liked/disliked about it (trust me, I've tested this game prior to each release like a mad dog!), your opinions and suggestions DEFINITELY help improve the quality of my game this time around. So please, speak up!
